Feature · Stage 4, Use the book

A glossary you can hand out before the book.

A complete glossary is a complete spoiler. Every term carries the point in the manuscript where it first appears, so the list can be cut at that point - producing an edition that only contains what a reader has already met.

How it works

Cut by first appearance.

1

Four levels, with real counts

Author and editor get everything; beta readers the first three quarters; book-one readers the first half; early readers the opening fifth. Each level shows how many terms it actually contains for your manuscript.

2

Applied where the export is built

The level you choose carries into the reader-edition builder, so every format - HTML, embed, EPUB, print, JSON - is generated from the cut list.

3

Unplaced terms are kept, not dropped

A term the scan could not position is unknown rather than late, so it stays in rather than vanishing silently from an edition.

FAQ

Questions about spoiler levels.

How does it know when a term appears?

From the word position of its first mention, measured during the scan on the trimmed body text - so front matter cannot make a term look early.

Can I set my own cut-off point?

Not yet - the four levels are fixed at 20%, 45%, 75% and complete. Each shows its real term count so you can see what you are handing out.

Does a definition give away later events?

It can, since suggested definitions are drawn from anywhere in the book. Every definition is editable in the builder before anything is generated.
