The Order, or the order?

Invented vocabulary drifts in and out of capitals over a long draft, and no spellchecker will ever flag it, because both forms are equally unknown to it. This recovers every spelling of every term straight from your manuscript and counts them.

How it works

Recovered after extraction, on purpose.

1

Every form is collected from the text

Extraction deliberately folds capitalised and lowercase forms together so a term is not counted twice. This report then goes back to the manuscript and recovers each spelling it actually used.

2

Counted, so you can see the majority

Thirty-one Wardens against four wardens is a clear answer. Sixteen against fourteen is a decision you need to make deliberately.

3

Nothing is edited

Choosing a preferred form produces the exact list of places to change. Your file is never modified - it is never even stored.

Use cases

Where capitals drift.

Fantasy

A title that is capitalised as a rank but not as a job.

Sci-fi

A technology that became a common noun somewhere in act two.

Series

House style that changed between book one and book four.

Copy-edit

Handing an editor the list rather than making them find it.

FAQ

Questions about capitalisation.

Is inconsistent capitalisation always wrong?

No. The Empire as an institution and an empire as a general noun are correctly different. The report shows you the split; the call is yours.

Will it change my manuscript?

Never. Nothing here edits your file. It produces a list of places to change, which you apply yourself in your own editor.

Does it catch sentence-start capitals?

Those are excluded from the comparison - every word is capitalised at the start of a sentence, so counting them would flag every term in the book.
