Detection pattern controls

Toggle bold/italic, quoted phrases, numbers, hyphenation or sentence-start words, set a word-length range, and add up to three include and three exclude patterns.

First appearance index

Every term sorted by where it first appears, with the sentence a reader actually meets it in - so the order your world is taught is in front of you.

Defined terms

Terms your own prose already explains, each shown with the sentence the scan found doing the explaining - the exact mirror of the unexplained list.

Character directory

Terms that behave like people. They speak, they are addressed by title, and things belong to them. Sorted out of the glossary automatically.

One-off terms

Every term the manuscript uses exactly once. Some are deliberate colour; the rest are threads you cut, or spellings that got away from the others.

Capitalisation checker

Terms your manuscript writes with a capital in some places and without one in others, with a count for each spelling so you can see which one you meant.

Hyphenation checker

Compounds your manuscript writes hyphenated in one chapter, joined in another and spaced in a third, with the count for each form.

Spelling standard

Counts British against American spellings across the whole manuscript, names the standard your book mostly keeps, and lists every word spelled the other way with the chapter it sits in.

Typography check

Straight quotation marks against curly, two hyphens standing in for a dash, three full stops standing in for an ellipsis, stray double spaces, and paragraphs whose quotation marks do not pair up.

House style

Counts Thomas's against Thomas', Mr against Mr., among against amongst, while against whilst, toward against towards and the two ways of writing a trailing-off, names the form your book mostly uses, and lists every place that departs from it with the chapter to open - bar the ellipsis, which is reported here and fixed on the typography check.

Name shapes

Groups your named characters by first letter, by how they end and by their length, so you can see the names a reader skims past each other, and places the crowding against the published novels in our benchmark.

Last seen

Reads where every mention of every term falls, and reports the ones that stop early and the ones that disappear for a long stretch of the book before coming back, so a thread you meant to pick up again is on a list rather than in your memory.

Story clock

Gathers every expression the manuscript uses to place a scene in time - a measured step, a scene change, a time of day, a named day, a date, a season, a span measured from something - draws them as one picture of the book from first page to last, and lists them in the order a reader meets them, each with the sentence it came from and the chapter it sits in, so the timeline is a page you read rather than a page you build.

Term clustering

Finds the passages where a word your book invented falls far more often than it does anywhere else in the manuscript, measured against that word’s own rate rather than against a fixed number, so the report is about your vocabulary rather than about repetition in general.

Compare two drafts

Upload an earlier draft of the manuscript, or load a saved JSON export of one, and see which invented terms your world gained, lost or renamed since.

Series check

Scan the next book in a series and see where it disagrees with the last one: a name spelled two ways, a term quietly dropped, a house style that moved between volumes.
